Long-range strikes by the Alpha Special Operations Center unit of the Security Service of Ukraine have severely damaged key elements of Russia's layered air defense system, with losses estimated at around $4 billion.

According to an SBU statement published on Telegram, Ukrainian forces have destroyed or disabled many Russian air defense systems over the past year, including the S-300, S-350, and S-400 systems, the Buk-M1 and Buk-M2 surface-to-air missile systems, the Pantsir-S1 and Pantsir-S2 missile and cannon systems, as well as the Tor-M1, Tor-M2, and Tor-M3 systems.

Russian radar detection and targeting capabilities have also suffered major losses, the Telegraph reports.

The SBU said that critical radar stations for detecting air targets and conducting air defense operations were damaged or destroyed, including the Nebo-U and Nebo-M radars, the Podlyot, Niobium, Kasta-2E2, Gamma-D, and Protyvnik-GE systems, as well as radars integrated into the Buk and S-300/S-400 air defense complexes, including the 92N6 radar.

The SBU released drone footage showing the destruction of several air defense systems, although Kyiv Post could not independently verify the timing or location.

"This work had a systematic effect: corridors were broken in the multilayered air defense of the Russian Federation," the statement said.

According to the agency, these violations provided safe routes for Ukrainian long-range drones to penetrate deep into Russian territory, allowing attacks on military bases, warehouses, airports and other military facilities.

In late December 2025, the SBU reported that since the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia, its Alpha special forces have destroyed more than 500 Russian air defense systems. /Telegraph/
