In a world of expensive cars, the Kia Seltos stands out as one of the best and most affordable options.

However, the current version looks a bit dated with a front-end design that clearly looks from a generation ago and an outdated cabin.

That's why today Kia is introducing the second-generation Seltos, which is much better than the one it replaces, reports Telegraph.

The 2027 Kia Seltos is based on the automaker's K3 platform, which also underpins the Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona.

The new Seltos is larger than the outgoing model, measuring about three inches longer overall, with a corresponding increase in wheelbase. It's also slightly wider.

Kia will offer the new Seltos with two familiar engines: two variants of the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated option.

In the US, the current Seltos comes with a 2.0-liter engine with 147 horsepower or a 1.6-liter engine with 190 horsepower, matching the power of the second-generation crossover's engines.

The high-output turbo engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, just like before. Kia will also offer all-wheel drive as a paid upgrade.

The Seltos will also gain a hybrid version with vehicle-to-vehicle charging capabilities, but details are scarce. With the Seltos sharing the same platform as the Niro Hybrid, Kia could borrow its powertrain for the crossover.

The second-generation crossover comes with a new exterior design that features a wider front grille, a floating roofline, sharp styling lines, and vertical taillights. The Seltos gains door handles, and Kia will offer it in a new matte Magma Red exterior color.

Inside, the Seltos gets a complete makeover, with dual 12.3-inch screens on the dashboard. The crossover retains a row of physical buttons for climate controls, and the design similarities to the 2027 Telluride are obvious.

Kia will continue to offer the Selto in EX, LX and SX trim levels, with GT-Line and X-Line versions also available.

X-Line cars will feature dark metallic finishes for a more rugged look, while GT-Line models will feature sleek body-color accents for a sportier look.

The Seltos will be able to receive non-stop updates and will have an AI assistant for conversational interactions. The crossover will be available with a range of driver assistance features and a head-up display.

Kia will start building the second-generation Seltos in December, and it will go on sale in the United States sometime next year, possibly as a 2027 model.

The 2026 Seltos are now on sale, starting at $25,135, including delivery. We expect Kia to announce Seltos pricing closer to the on-sale date sometime next summer. /Telegraph/
