Kenya officially announces that it has recognized Kosovo as a state

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya has officially announced that today this country has recognized Kosovo.

The announcement states that Kosovo's declaration of independence on February 17, 2008, received the approval of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2010.

"Kenya has recognized Kosovo in the interest of international peace and security, territorial integrity and in advancing the strengthening of relations with Balkan countries," the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced through a post on the "X" platform.

The announcement further states that Kenyan President William Ruto received today at the state palace in Nairobi, Behgjet Pacolli, special envoy of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani.

The recognition from Kenya is the first for Kosovo in the last four years.

Former Kosovo President Behgjet Pacolli was the first to announce the country's recognition by Kenya, before the current president, Vjosa Osmani, officially confirmed that she had received recognition from her Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto.

"The Republic of Kosovo welcomes the decision of the Republic of Kenya to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, through the decision signed by President Ruto and officially sent to the Presidency a short while ago," Osmani wrote on Facebook.

On Wednesday evening, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said he thanked Osmani and Pacolli for their role, "along with all those who contributed to this achievement."

Pacolli, former deputy prime minister of Kosovo, wrote on Facebook that the recognition took place "in an extraordinary and unforgettable ceremony" on March 26. /Telegraph/
