The evening of January 11 and the early morning hours of today, according to officials from the Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute, marked the lowest temperatures in our country, down to -14°C, accompanied by rainfall, which in some areas caused flooding. In the following days and until January 20, temperatures are expected to rise to positive values during the day.

Today marks one of the coldest days of this winter so far. Temperatures in the early morning hours had dropped to -14 degrees Celsius in the high mountain areas. This winter weather is considered stable and without unusual extremes, starting with rainfall that brought flooding and low temperatures, says Besim Aliu from the Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute.

"Last night was -14 to -15 in the highlands tonight, which means that on Monday evening we will again have low temperatures of -9 to -11 below zero, but in the following days we will have midday temperatures with positive values, so during the night and the first part of the day there will be mainly frost, so be careful, traffic participants," he said on RTK.

Enormous rainfall, according to meteorology, up to 300 liters per square meter, brought flooding to low-lying areas and valleys of the country, while climatological conditions are normal for this period of the year, Aliu underlines.

"Right now, the southern part is seeing snowfall, with 11 cm of precipitation in the city of Ferizaj, while in the highlands in Brezovica and above, over 40 centimeters have fallen. Now the meteorological situation will calm down and the following days will be what I would call typical winter days with negative temperatures at night and positive temperatures during the day," Aliu added.

IHMK officials announce that there will be no low temperatures until January 20. Although January is considered the peak of the winter cold, forecasts speak of a gradual stabilization of temperatures in the coming days, which are considered relief, especially for citizens with serious socio-economic and health conditions, for whom the passage of the winter peak brings not only warmer weather, but also more security in everyday life.
