Three of the four "chairs" of Serbian diplomacy have been weakened seriously – relations with Washington, Brussels and Moscow – assesses foreign policy analyst Boško Jakšić.

He excludes China, which he says is only interested in investment and profits.

According to Jaksic, the handover of the General Staff building will not improve relations between Serbia and the United States.

"Earlier this year, there were signs of improving relations with the Americans. The possibility of a strategic dialogue between the two countries was even mentioned. But after Vučić's failure to attend the Republican convention in May, relations began to deteriorate," Jakšić said.

He added that this attempt to hand over the General Staff to the Americans resembles the sale of the NIS company to the Russians, as an attempt to gain political sympathy.

According to him, the construction of a "Trump Tower" on European soil may only have symbolic significance, but will not change anything politically.

Donald Trump is interested in separating Serbia from Russian energy influence, while Vučić's attempt to flatter the US resembles the former agreement with Russia over Kosovo.

"I think Vucic has a strong resentment towards Trump. Since then, relations with the Americans have been in a downward spiral. This with the General Staff is an attempt to somehow correct those mistakes in a way that reminds me of the sale of the NIS to the Russians, in order to flatter them for their support for Kosovo. It seems to me that there is nothing wrong with that, and we can see this from America's intransigence regarding the NIS," he said.

The Serbian analyst believes that Belgrade's diplomacy is repeating old mistakes.

"After the war in Ukraine, Serbia remained neutral for months. Now, when it needs to talk to Moscow about the NIS, it sends the speaker of the parliament to Kiev. After this, Vucic will no longer be accepted in Moscow," he added.

Jaksic also recalled the harsh reaction of Russian spokeswoman Maria Zakharova after the sale of ammunition to Ukraine and Israel, saying that financial gain should not be a priority over political dimensions.

He stressed that Serbia already has damaged relations with three major centers - the US, the EU and Russia - while China remains the only one that maintains economic interest.

Regarding Aleksandar Vučić's meeting with Emmanuel Macron, Jaksić expressed skepticism about any progress.

"Macron has neither the authority nor the ambition to improve Serbia's relations with the EU. The Germans are withdrawing from interest in Serbia after abandoning the lithium project," he said.

According to him, Vučić's political ambitions are much greater than his real capabilities.

"He wanted to be the new Viktor Orbán – good with Putin and Trump – but he didn't learn even this lesson. He is not ripe for big geopolitical games and we are paying the price for that," Jakshq said.

Finally, he emphasized that the most important issue at the moment remains the oil problem.

"The Pančevo refinery may stop production on November 25. This is the most urgent problem that Serbia needs to solve," concluded Jaksic, reports N1, as reported by Telegrafi.
