Italian media criticize Milan's five stars after disappointing loss to Feyenoord

Five Milan players have been criticised in the Italian press following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Feyenoord in the first leg of their Champions League play-off on Wednesday night, as Sergio Conceicao's side now face a tough task in the second leg at San Siro next week.

The Reds were defeated 1-0 in the Netherlands on Wednesday night.

The evening started badly for the Rossoneri, who were caught with many players in front after just three minutes, with Igor Paixao shaking goalkeeper Mike Maignan's net.

Maignan is one of the players who has been criticised in Thursday's newspapers for his mistake against Feyenoord.

At his best, there's no doubt he would be able to handle Paixao's punch with relative comfort.

La Gazzetta dello Sport labelled Maignan's mistake as a 'sensational prediction' while also claiming that he no longer brings Milan much security in goal.

There was plenty of excitement to see Milan's new attack come together for the first time on Wednesday night, however, Rafael Leao, Joao Felix, Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez have also been criticised in Thursday's editions.

Corriere dello Sport wrote that the four players failed to create spaces in Feyenoord's defensive line and struggled to threaten their Dutch opponents in attack. The Italian newspaper also suggests that Milan were looking for speed and intensity rather than individual skill on the night. /Telegraph/
