Liverpool manager Arne Slot has cast doubt on reports from Portugal that Darwin Nunez has been left out of the starting line-up due to a payment clause in the striker's transfer deal from Benfica.
According to reports, Liverpool will allegedly have to pay an additional €5 million if Nunez makes his 60th start in the Premier League and Champions League.
Slot claimed he had no knowledge of such a clause and suggested that Nunez's absence from the lineup is a sporting decision.
"Do you always believe what journalists say? Not always? Me neither," Slot said, adding that he has a good working relationship with sporting director Richard Hughes, who would never interfere in squad decisions based on financial considerations.
"I don't even know if it's true, yes or no, because we never talk about it," Slot said, hinting that the reports may be unfounded.
Given that Nunez has not started since March 8, Slot's comments suggest that the striker's form and performance are the main factors behind his current status. /Telegraph/
