What data was deleted from Google Maps is revealed

Earlier this month, Google Maps users reported that their Timeline data was disappearing.

Several weeks after Google Maps users reported that their Timeline had been deleted and that they could not access the places they visited, Google has now confirmed that some users' data has been deleted and in some cases cannot be recovered.

In a statement to The Verge, a Google spokesperson said: "We briefly experienced technical issues that resulted in the deletion of Timeline data for some users. Only users who had the backup option enabled can recover their Timeline data."

Google recently switched to storing Timeline data on the device, while the backup option is not enabled by default. To opt in, the user needs to go to Your Timeline in the Maps app and update the settings under the cloud icon.

The aforementioned incident led to some users losing their transaction history data that they had saved with the guides, which they now cannot recover. /Telegraph/
