It has been decided what the new iPhone will be called

Apple may have decided to call one of the new phones the iPhone 17 Air, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports.

As Gurman says, the phone will be "a testing ground for future technologies," including technology leading to the company's first foldable devices.

The name wouldn't be surprising – both the MacBook Air and iPad Air were the slimmest versions of their lines when they went on sale.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to follow suit by being "about 2 millimeters thinner" than current iPhones, with some tipsters suggesting the thickness will be between 5.5mm and 6.25mm.

It's not just about flexibility, it's about the company's desire to move towards foldable iPads and iPhones, and the phone could also be one of the first Apple devices to test the internal modem, codenamed Sinope, which debuted this spring on the iPhone SE, writes Gurman.

This year's iPhone lineup is expected to debut with Apple-designed Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chips, though it's not known if that's the case for the 17 Air as well.

Earlier rumors said that the new 17 Air will have a 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED screen with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which has so far only been used in iPhone Pro models.

It will also have a 48 MP rear camera, while the selfie camera will be 24 MP. It could have an A19 chip and, like the iPhone SE 4, is expected to have 8GB of RAM to run Apple Intelligence AI features. /Telegraph/
