"It's a shame for a man to marry a man", Bytyqi from the List for the Family explains why they are being punished by the ECAP

The List for the Family has been fined 18 thousand euros by the Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) for the language used during the political campaign.

On Debat Plus, Asdren Bytyqi, a candidate for MP from this list, stated that the fines were imposed due to stances against same-sex marriage, expressed during the campaign.

"We have been fined 18 thousand euros so far. We have three decisions because of the language we are using. Citizens should know that the language that has become the object of punishment is 'we will not allow marriage between a man and a man, a woman and a woman'."

It is unprecedented in recent years in Kosovo that we have such a restriction of freedom of expression. Especially in the context of a political competition. We are being condemned for using the words 'it is a shame that a man married a man', 'it is a shame that a man married a man'. We are dealing with ideology and they are forcing us to remain silent in the face of this degeneration. We have filed an appeal against the first two decisions in the Supreme Court, and we still have no answer.

"We think that freedom of expression is being illegally restricted. This is our political promise. A political promise cannot be limited for a right that is guaranteed to us by the constitution and the law. We are promising for a right that does not exist, that is not legally regulated," said Bytyqi.
