Israel releases 200 Palestinian prisoners – some held since 1985

Three buses carrying 114 Palestinian prisoners, released under the Gaza ceasefire agreement, arrived in Ramallah on Saturday.

This represents another step in the ongoing prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel.

Israeli television Channel 12 confirmed the transfer of Palestinian prisoners from Ketziot prison in the Negev, with plans to transport them to the Kerem Shalom crossing on the Gaza border.

The Hamas Prisoners Information Office has published a list of 200 Palestinian prisoners scheduled for release. Among them are 121 people serving life sentences and 79 serving long sentences, who are part of the second group under the exchange agreement.

Hamas called the release a significant moment, writes aljazeera

"Today we force the criminal occupier to open the doors of his cells to our heroic prisoners, and this is our commitment to them for freedom, as well as to our people to continue walking together on the path of independence and self-determination," the Hamas statement read.

They said that this is one of the immortal days of the Palestinian people.

Earlier in the day, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, handed over four Israeli prisoners to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza, in accordance with the current exchange and ceasefire agreement. /Telegraph/
