The situation in Iran is "under full control" after protest-related violence escalated over the weekend.

At least, according to foreign media, the country's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said on Monday.

Araghchi also reacted to a warning from US President Donald Trump against Tehran for actions.

Araghchi also said that Iran was fully prepared for conflict, but was also ready for negotiations.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is not seeking war, but is fully prepared for war," Araghchi told a conference of foreign ambassadors in Tehran, broadcast on state television.

"We are also ready for negotiations, but these negotiations must be fair, with equal rights and based on mutual respect," he added.

Recall that US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Iran proposed negotiations after his threat to strike the Islamic Republic over its crackdown on protesters, while activists announced that the death toll had risen to at least 544.

According to a report by the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, over 10,600 people have also been arrested during the two weeks of protests, and 48 of the victims were security personnel, and 496 were demonstrators.

Speaking to reporters Sunday evening aboard Air Force One, Trump said: "I think they're tired of being hit by the United States. Iran wants to negotiate."

Trump's comments followed his repeated threats to intervene militarily if Iranian authorities continue their deadly crackdown on protesters. /Telegraph
