Inzaghi: We are very happy with qualification, we want our Champions League journey to continue

Simone Inzaghi was pleased that Inter 'kept their cool' against Bayern Munich to reach their second Champions League semi-final in three years, where they will face Barcelona.

The Nerazzurri ultimately capitalised on their 2-1 advantage in the first leg in Munich, as this ensured that a 2-2 draw at San Siro was enough to see them through to the semi-finals thanks to a 4-3 aggregate result.

"It was a wonderful evening and the fans helped us a lot against a very strong opponent. Bayern played two excellent games, but they were up against a team that wanted to qualify at all costs with two wonderful performances," Inzaghi initially said after the match.

"We did very well, helped each other and sacrificed ourselves for the team, which is the only way to beat a team like Bayern Munich."

"We also keep a cool head, because we kind of conceded against the game with Mkhitaryan injured. We stayed in the game, stayed sharp, turned it around, then we conceded 2-2 and in the last 15-20 minutes Bayern jumped ahead with Gnabry and Coman coming off the bench."

There was additional reason to be pleased because all players at risk of suspension managed to avoid yellow cards, so they are now cleared for the semi-finals, although there was confusion over a card late in the match.

"No, it was Dimarco. Luckily, it wasn't me or Bastoni, otherwise we would have been watching the game in Barcelona from the stands," Inzaghi explained.

"We also have to remember who we were up against. Bayern Munich had won their previous four visits to San Siro, so we knew it would be difficult, but this result rewards us for all our efforts. We go into the semi-finals with great pride, wanting our journey to continue."

"Now we hope to bring everyone back from injury, as it is not easy to play every 48-72 hours, but the players, the staff, the club and the fans all achieved something extraordinary. Not everyone reaches the semi-finals of the Champions League and we are very happy," concluded the Inter coach.

Otherwise, the first semi-final match will take place in Catalonia on April 30, with the decider being played at San Siro on Tuesday, May 6. /Telegraph/
