Inter plan to remove Thuram's salary increase clause in new contract

Inter are reportedly planning to renew centre-forward Marcus Thuram's contract, as the Nerazzurri hope to remove the release clause in his current deal, which could theoretically be activated this summer.

The Frenchman joined Inter on a free transfer after his time with Borussia Moenchengladbach ended in 2023, and has gone on to form an impressive partnership with Lautaro Martinez, which resulted in a Scudetto win last season.

As things stand, Thuram is currently the fourth-highest earner among Inter's squad, behind Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella, who reportedly earn around the same amount, and Lautaro Martinez, who is currently the highest earner.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, a new contract for Thuram could mean he surpasses Calhanoglu and Barella on Inter's payroll.

Thuram is still under contract with Inter until the summer of 2028, so the Nerazzurri are not particularly concerned about the expiration date of his deal, but rather the release clause that remains in his current deal.

According to La Gazzetta dello SportThuram has a release clause worth €85 million in his current contract with the Nerazzurri, which is roughly in line with his current market value.

While there is no immediate link to a move away from San Siro, there is a risk that another top club in Europe could be tempted to activate the release clause. If Inter do remove it, then they remain in control of setting an asking price for any interested team. /Telegraph/
