Hazardous chemicals are banned and import permits are revoked

Acting Minister of the Environment, Hysen Durmishi, has announced that a joint inspection has been launched with the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade regarding the import, trade and use of chemicals, biocides and pesticides.
As Durmishi reports, following information received from MAFRD, it was found that some operators have misused the registration system, presenting pesticides as biocides, including substances prohibited by international directives, Dukagjini reports.
"For this reason, institutions have taken concrete and irreversible measures, in accordance with European standards," he wrote on Facebook.
Durmishi announced that so far, internal audits have been initiated for over 100 cases, the import, distribution and use of hazardous substances have been prohibited, field inspections have been strengthened, punitive measures have been taken against every violator, without distinction, inter-institutional coordination has been increased for the full implementation of the law, working groups have been created to formulate new acts and regulations, import permit decisions that were in violation of the law have been revoked, and a significant amount of chemicals has been confiscated, preventing their entry into the market.
"As Minister of MMPHI and as the Government, we have a zero-tolerance policy towards any action that harms the health of citizens and the environment. Public life and health are above any other interest. Therefore, we invite the institutions of law and justice to act with full priority and seriousness. Our institutions are ready for full cooperation, so that the law is implemented without exceptions and without influence. The message is clear: no one is above the law and no practice that endangers people, animals or the environment will be tolerated," he wrote.
