Working "in the black" in Dortmund, German customs officers catch two illegal workers from Kosovo

Officials from the main customs office in Dortmund have arrested two illegal workers at a hotel-restaurant in Netphen. Customs had received a corresponding notification.

A woman (with Kosovar citizenship) escaped from the kitchen and attempted to evade control, but was caught by customs officers.

When her personal data was checked, it turned out that the Kosovar woman did not have the right to work. By taking on the job illegally, she has also lost her right to reside.

The same applies to another Kosovar citizen, who was also employed in the kitchen. Their passports were confiscated and handed over to the immigration authorities. The two Kosovars must now leave the country within a short period of time, the main customs office said in a statement, albinfo.ch reports.

Illegal employment: there is a risk of a fine of up to 500.000 euros

"Such circumstances can result in a large fine, writes wp.de. Illegal employment of foreigners can be punished with a fine of up to 500 thousand euros," explains the press spokeswoman for the main customs office in Dortmund, Andrea Münch.

Since the two employees were not registered with social security, the employer also faces criminal proceedings.

"Unannounced inspections should be expected at all times, especially in sectors that are particularly susceptible to undeclared work and violations of minimum wage rules," the spokeswoman adds.
