"I was in the center of Kiev, Putin never was" - Biden says as he evaluates foreign policy during his presidency

US President Joe Biden says his presidency has been a tremendous success on the foreign policy front, as he held a press conference to reflect on his administration's time in office.

As the American leader prepares to vacate the Oval Office next week, he remains adamant that during his single term, steps have been taken forward in restoring American credibility on the world stage and has proven that the US remains an indispensable partner around the globe.

"The United States is winning the global competition," Biden told the audience gathered in the US State Department conference room, according to the Telegraph.

Biden says the world is at a turning point, stressing that a new era of "fierce competition" has begun, replacing the "post-Cold War period."

Biden continued, elaborating that the United States is moving ahead of its competition in various areas, including the future of the global economy, technology, and human values.

"Compared to four years ago, America is stronger, our alliances are stronger, our adversaries and competitors are weaker."

Biden then took the opportunity to devote a few minutes of his speech to perhaps the biggest rival of his presidency, Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In this regard, Biden says that his administration has prevented Putin from achieving any real success in his war objectives.

"When Putin started the invasion of Ukraine, he thought he would take Kiev in a few days. The truth is that since that war began, I am the only one who has stood in the center of Kiev, not him. Putin has never done it."

He went on to say that over the years, the Russian leader was unable to change the trajectory in his favor.

"And now, almost three, three years later, Putin has failed to achieve any of his strategic objectives. He has so far failed to subdue Ukraine, he has failed to break the unity of NATO, and he has failed to make major territorial gains," Biden added.

The outgoing US president says it is important not to abandon the path he has embarked on, stressing that the fate of other countries, as far as Asia, rests on continued support for Ukraine. /Telegraph/
