"I was close to death, I don't remember anything" - Premier League star posts first photo after horrific car crash

West Ham's English star Michail Antonio has released his first photo since the car accident he suffered in December 2024.

The 34-year-old was taken to hospital with a broken leg after barely pulling himself out of the wreckage of his extremely valuable Ferrari.

He was trapped in the car for more than 45 minutes and admitted he feared for his life, with the car crash occurring after he hit a tree as he returned home from training at Epping Forest.

Antonio remembers that the weather was windy and rainy and that a Storm Darragh warning had been issued.

"When the police found me, I was between two seats. I wasn't in the driver's seat."

"They said it looked like I was trying to climb out the window, but since my leg was broken, I couldn't do it because of the pain," Antonio says.

The attacker was rushed to hospital and released 24 days after the accident. When asked if he remembered anything from the accident, Antonio said 'nothing'.

"It's strange, because the whole way they kept telling me that I was awake and that I was talking to everyone - the police, the people and the person who found me."

"I realized I was close to death. I saw the photos, but personally I was ten times worse. The car was a complete mess, it was very difficult for me," the Englishman underlined.

Sources close to the player said he was lucky to survive the accident given the condition of his Ferrari and added that he will not be able to play again this season.

It was initially thought that the recovery would take up to 12 months, but it is reported that he will return to individual training next month.

His contract with West Ham expires in the summer of 2025 and a decision has not yet been made on his future. /Telegraph/
