A step forward, this is how Spas Tashev from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences defined the agreement for the construction of Corridor 8 on the "Brussels 1" broadcast, which was signed at the beginning of the month in Gjueshevo by the deputy prime ministers and ministers of transport of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, Grozdan Karadzhov and Aleksandar Nikoloski, respectively.

However, the expert did not hide his skepticism and emphasized that the cross-border railway tunnel has more than 100 years of history.
"I was twenty-something when the first foundations of the route were laid in the territory of present-day North Macedonia. After that, several governments changed there and the first foundations were laid again. Will we see a third one, I don't know. This corridor should be built one day," Tashev predicted for "Bulgaria ON Air."

For him, signing such documents is extremely important.

"I see in this also a gentle European pressure on the government in Skopje to finally start working in this direction, because Corridor 8 is strategic. Not only the EU, but also the southeastern part of NATO is interested in it," the expert added.
He said that Bulgaria did not always accept the hand extended by Skopje.

"What could be done in the current conditions, when Skopje undoubtedly sabotaged this corridor? I always wondered why, on the Bulgarian side, we did not start building the infrastructure that would correspond to our understanding of the depth and sustainability of ties with the RSM. I have no explanation," Tashev added. /Telegraph/
