Hykmete Bajrami has irrevocably resigned from the position of vice-president of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and has simultaneously requested the resignation of the party's president, Lumir Abdixhiku, following the LDK's poor performance in the December 28, 2025 elections.

In a public statement, Bajrami said that this action is based on the LDK's political standard, according to which those who receive poor election results must be held accountable and pave the way for internal party elections.

She emphasized that the decision is not personal or emotional, but a respect for the standards that the party has built over the years.

Bajrami also noted that the main challenge for Kosovo remains the risk of concentrating power in one party or individual, adding that the LDK aims to protect the state, freedom, independence and democracy, by placing the interest of the party and the country above personal interest.

"After the results of December 28, the leadership and party bodies have lost legitimacy, therefore internal elections are necessary and no other process can save us," said Bajrami, also thanking the over 126 thousand citizens who voted for the LDK and over 57 thousand who trusted its political commitment.

She confirmed that she will continue to work for the LDK and for the country's interest as an elected MP in her seventh mandate in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, within the LDK Parliamentary Group.

Of the LDK candidates, Bajrami ranked second with 57 thousand votes.

Meanwhile, the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, has announced that he will offer his resignation at the party's Assembly, which is expected to be held soon. The decision on whether or not to accept the resignation will be made through a vote of the delegates.

Abdixhiku stated after a several-hour meeting with his associates at the LDK headquarters that offering his resignation is part of a democratic process and that the LDK Assembly is the only body that has the authority to decide on this issue./Telegrafi.
