Human Rights Network condemns Minister Murati's attack on the media and civil society

In the Assembly of Kosovo on Thursday, there was a discussion about the content of the Report of the American Department of State (DASH) on Kosovo, in which Minister Hekuran Murati said that the reporter has in some cases fallen prey to misinformation from some media that are still part of old guards and some NGOs.
The member organizations of the Human Rights Network (HRN) have been following with concern the discussions in the Kosovo Assembly on this report and the disturbing statements of the Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati. In his speech, Minister Murati said that “...If we go into the quality and then analyze the sentences, we see that in some cases even the rapporteur has fallen prey to the misinformation of some media that are still part of the old guard and some NGOs that masquerade as such or are extensions of the old guard.…”.
"Statements with such accusations addressed to NGOs and the media in Kosovo with the claim that they are captured by the previous Governments, are direct attacks on the latter. A lynching practice of this nature towards NGOs and the media, right on the eve of the World Press Freedom Day, is an indicator of the lack of cooperation, of an underestimation and degradation of the work of activists and media journalists. from the Minister of the Government Kurti", it is stated in the communique of HRN, Telegrafi transmits.
According to HRN, reports such as that of the civil society for Human Rights, DASH, the European Commission and others, should serve as an overview of the delays and problems that the state and citizens of Kosovo are facing and on their basis, every Minister should reflect on his/her work.
"Precisely starting from this dangerous practice of lynching and denigrating the work of NGOs and the media and many other cases in the last year, today Kosovo has marked an alarming regression, ranking 19 places lower in the Reporters Without Index Borders on media freedom. Statements like this by Minister Murati further contribute to this negative trend".
"Human Rights Network (HRN) member organizations call on governments to refrain from lynching statements and use such reports, including the Civil Society Report on Human Rights 2023 that will be published on May 16, 2024 , as constructive criticism of their work and to work towards improving the situation in the country", says the reaction. /Telegraph/
