How the Champions League situation stands for the 2025/26 season: Teams, pots and the remaining 12 places
The domestic competitions are coming to an end. In Germany, France, Portugal and the Netherlands, they ended last week. This weekend, La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League end the 2024/25 season. In the major leagues, the champions are already known, and only in Italy the champion is still unknown. Inter and Napoli are in the race for the Scudetto.
La Liga will have five representative teams. Barcelona (La Liga champion), Real Madrid, Atletico de Madrid, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal.
The Premier League will have a full six teams. Only Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, who were crowned Europa League champions, are the teams that have secured it.
With the final match to be played this weekend, we can now analyse the qualified clubs and the draws. The distribution of teams into pots is determined by their UEFA coefficient.
The 24 teams that have confirmed their presence are: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Napoli, Inter, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, PSG, Monaco, Marseille, Sporting Lisbon, Atalanta, Olympiacos, Galatasaray.
There are still 12 places left to fill, but the situation currently stands as follows:
Pot 1 with this edition's finalists, Barça and Real Madrid
It should be noted that these pots are not final and may change. In pot 1, we find the two finalists of this edition of the Champions League. PSG and Inter.
In addition to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, the last three champions of their respective leagues. City and Chelsea are fighting to qualify for the Champions League. If they win Serie A, Napoli will enter the first pot.
Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Atalanta in Pot 2
In pot 2, we find Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Leverkusen, Arsenal, Atalanta and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Gunners were again runners-up for the third year in a row. Villarreal enter the Champions League as the fifth team due to the extra place over Spain due to their European performance and victory over Italy.
The other teams are Club Brugge and Benfica, who are still waiting to win the last round. Juventus will fight alongside Roma for the last place in the Champions League in Italy.

Big clubs in pots 3 and 4
PSV, Ajax, Sporting Lisbon, Olympiacos, Slavia Prague and Marseille are already in pot 3. Seven teams in total.
In the final pot, we find Ernesto Valverde's team, who, despite their final week, will enter the league in fourth place. Only Athletic Bilbao, Monaco and Galatasaray (winners of the Turkish League) will advance directly to the group stage.
The final 12 teams to secure their place in the Champions League have yet to be announced. As of today, Bodo/Glimt, Copenhagen, Crvena Zvezda, Ferencvaros, Celtic, Union Saint-Gilloise and Newcastle United are all guaranteed their places. However, the stakes are high. /Telegraph/
