How did Kosovo Customs manage to seize a wristwatch worth 400 thousand euros at Pristina Airport?

Kosovo Customs has managed to confiscate a wristwatch worth 400 thousand euros. The same was not declared by its owner.

Speaking about forms of money laundering in Kosovo, the director of Kosovo Customs, Agron Llugaliu, said that the watch worth 400 thousand euros was found in a passenger's suitcase at Pristina "Adem Jashari" Airport.

He explains that the person whose watch was found was selected for inspection and then the watch worth 400 thousand euros was confiscated.


"We recently had a case that we caught, which exceeds the value of 400 thousand euros, one hour. Their goal is not to have the money 'cash' but as a monetary instrument. We caught it at Pristina Airport, it was found in a suitcase. They were selected for a person check and we found it", explained Llugaliu in "Kallxo Përnime".

Llugaliu said that as Customs they are responsible for the border section in terms of money laundering control.

"The forms that the discipline of money laundering recognizes, earning money in a dirty way. Dirty money is also that which is earned without paying taxes. From smuggling or tax on profits that are not paid," he declared.

As for expensive things, like in this case watches, he said that they are not necessarily brought to Kosovo to sell them but to have them as a "monetary instrument."

The Customs Director said that customs officers are trained and have information about expensive brands and through the Passenger Information Unit they have access to all passenger tickets and see who is a departing and arriving passenger. /Kallxo.com/
