How Xabi could include Alonso, Huijsen, Carvajal and Trent in his preferred 3-5-2 formation at Real Madrid

Xabi Alonso will lead Real Madrid to the Club World Cup this summer. There is no longer any debate about that, with Carlo Ancelotti leaving the club at the end of the month.

Even before the Spaniard takes over from the Italian, the Spanish club has begun making moves to improve their defense.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will be the first to arrive, closely followed by Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen.

Real Madrid could also bring in Alvaro Carreras from Benfica to fill the left-back position.

According to reports, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius will be the pillars of his attack.

Alonso's preferred formation is 3-5-2 — which includes two strikers (Mbappe and Vini), a three-man defense and two advanced wingers.

At Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso's full-backs were Frimpong and Grimaldo. At Real Madrid, he will have Trentin and Carreras.

Huijsen could play at the heart of Madrid's defense with Antonio Rudiger, Militao, Raul Asensio or Dani Carvajal as his partners.

Carvajal can play as a centre-back, having played there successfully many times under Ancelotti. /Telegraph/
