A historic moment was marked in the Municipality of Čaška in North Macedonia, following the conclusion of local elections, as for the first time an Albanian was elected to the position of mayor.

Suat Shaqiri, candidate from the National Alliance for Integration (AKI), won in the first round with 50.71% of the vote, according to the final results of the State Election Commission (SEC).

Shaqiri's victory comes as a surprise to public opinion, considering that Çashka has historically been led by Macedonian candidates.

Arbër Ademi declared at a press conference last night that history was written in Çaška.

"So, Suat Shaqiri is the mayor, history is being written in Çaşka for the first time with an Albanian mayor," said Ademi.

This result is considered a major achievement for the political representation of Albanians in areas where they have traditionally been in the minority.

Shaqiri has pledged to work for all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, describing this victory as a step towards coexistence and broader integration at the local level. /Telegrafi/
