The case of Milan Vukashinović from Leposavic, who was seriously injured under still unclear circumstances in early November last year near the village of Jelakce, continues to attract public attention.

While the competent Serbian institutions continue to avoid official statements and providing concrete information, the people following and investigating this event have also received threats.

The details of the November 1 event were recounted by the injured Vukashinović himself during his testimony before the prosecutor, which he had Nova.rs. Specifically, on December 12, he testified before the senior public prosecutor in Prokuplje, at the prison hospital in Belgrade, describing in detail the event when he was shot in the back near the village of Jelakce.

According to him, that day he was scheduled to meet with Dragomir A. in the territory of Kosovo, with whom he had previously met in that area. Dragomir A. was bringing him honey and raki, reports Telegrafi.

At around 11:00, while driving on an alternative route, Vukashinović's vehicle collided with a tree that was positioned across the road, but he did not stop and continued his journey.

"When I got off the road into a meadow, some people in cars surrounded me and started shooting. At one point I realized they were shooting at me and I felt that I had been hit. Then, in an instant, I flew out through the windshield," Vukashinovic stated during his testimony.

He added that, after he got out of the vehicle, unknown persons approached him, took him to Dragomir A.'s vehicle, which was in the meadow, and transported him to the Prokuplje hospital in that vehicle. After receiving first aid, Vukashinović was transferred to the Niš Clinical Center, where he remained hospitalized until mid-November, then transferred to the Central Prison.

Vukashinovic suffered serious physical injuries from the shooting; the bullet is still lodged in his spine, which, he says, keeps him bedridden. In Niš, he had a kidney removed, and he also suffered a fractured right ankle.

In his testimony, he denied the allegations of the criminal complaint of November 1, claiming that he did not commit the criminal offense he is accused of, after the order for the investigation was read to him.

Speaking about his life in Kosovo, Vukashinovic said that he has lived there since birth and that for years he had tried unsuccessfully to find employment, turning to, among others, representatives of the Serbian List. After receiving no help in 2015, he turned to Kosovo institutions.

The first information about Vukashinovic's injury was published on the social network X by the family's lawyer, Ivan Ninić, raising a number of questions regarding the circumstances of the shooting. According to the claims presented by Ninić, Vukashinovic was injured in the back, while it is suspected that the incident involved people wearing military uniforms, without any distinguishing marks, in jeeps without license plates.

To date, no official information has been made public about this case, and the public remains unanswered about who fired the shots, why, and on whose orders.

Still in detention, in hospital – lawyer writes to SUK

Vukashinović remains in the prison hospital in Belgrade, with the bullet still lodged in his spine, while his pre-trial detention remains in effect. So far, he has been questioned by the competent authorities, while, according to unofficial information from Nova.rs, his mother has visited him only once.

The lawyer for the Vukashinović family has filed a complaint with the Internal Control Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia against persons NN, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia. According to the complaint, on November 1, 2025, near the village of Jelakce, without police signs, without license plates and without any warning, they opened fire on a moving vehicle.

The report states that more than 25 bullets were fired at the vehicle driven by Vukashinović, causing serious life-threatening injuries, including a penetrating wound to the spine, with a bullet still lodged in his body, which keeps him permanently confined to a hospital bed. The report states that this act seriously violated the rules of the police service and that there are grounds for suspicion of the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder.

On the other hand, the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Kruševac, which has taken over the criminal report from the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Prokuplje, has not yet contacted the defense regarding the investigations.

Serbian security services have remained silent on the case, while pro-regime media reported that members of the Security and Information Agency (BIA), in cooperation with other state bodies, arrested two people in the Raska area on suspicion of espionage. According to reports, the detainees are suspected of having collected confidential information of importance to the security of the Republic of Serbia over a longer period of time and passed it on to Albanian intelligence services.

"The investigation has lasted several months, while the arrest is a continuation of the action of November 1, when Milan Vukashinović was arrested at the administrative line," pro-regime media reported, adding that Vukashinović had attempted to flee, but Serbian security services had used firearms and he was injured.

On the other hand, the Kosovo Police also reacted a few days after the event, claiming that Serbian services had kidnapped Vukashinović.

"On 01.11.2025, the Kosovo Police received information that in the Leposaviq area it is suspected that a person (MV), a citizen of Kosovo of Serbian ethnicity, was injured and kidnapped within the territory of Kosovo by the Serbian Gendarmerie," the Kosovo Police statement said.

At the same time, authorities in Kosovo are conducting an examination of the injured Vukashinović's phones – one found in the vehicle and the other in the family home.

Meanwhile, earlier, Milan Vukashinović had been under the "scrutiny" of the pro-Serbian regime media due to his clash with the Serbian List. /Telegraph/
