Helena tells about Ismail Kadare's diaries: "He forgot the key at home and..."

The Kadare-Agolli studio house no longer belongs to the families of famous writers, but is open to the public, offering the opportunity to visit the spaces where the great works of Albanian literature were born, in the heart of Tirana.

Helena Kadare, the wife of the famous writer Ismail Kadare, shared special memories about the apartment, now turned into a museum.

"He liked that apartment, because it was made with many sacrifices. We had very good relations with them on the scale where we lived," she confessed.

But Kadareja always had a special point of view.

"He told me 'this is not our house,' I said why? 'There are no sofas,' he said. He was waiting to see the house to live in. He never went to watch it, only when he finished it. He was of the opinion 'it's not my job, it's the job of the one who took it over'."

Helena Kadare also recalled intimate moments experienced in the family.

"I remember a letter from Besiana that I saw when I went home and it said: 'Mom and dad always lock themselves in the room and they tell some secrets that we don't hear.'"

"Although our life was joyful, the news was terrible. There were sad events in the background. His main work was written in front of that fireplace. He never changed the writing system.”

One of the most felt episodes was that of the forgotten diary. "Diaries had no reason to give the house a museum. One day he forgot his key at home and said 'did you read anything'? 'No' I said, but I read. I would be bored, I was also bored with what I read. There were stories with Russian girls," she told TopChannel.

Also, she described how the writer kept his books while traveling abroad.

"When Ismaili came from abroad, he took the books and put some in his coat, some in his suitcase," concluded Helena Kadare, describing with emotion moments from their shared life.
