He was blind and had not been able to see for 10 years, after surgical intervention the parrot regains his sight - the bird's reaction when he meets his owner

Many bird lovers, especially parrots, were left in tears after a video was released showing the parrot's exciting moment of seeing its former owner for the first time.

Boo, a 40-year-old cockatoo, faced a difficult situation early in his life. He suffered abuse and lost a toe, and was rescued during a police raid nearly 25 years ago, reports the Telegraph.

Then, 10 years ago, his eyesight began to fail. That, along with his history of abuse, made Boo unsuitable for adoption as a companion animal, his current owner, Amy Hurst, told Newsweek.

However, despite his past, a woman, Nedra, decided to adopt the bird anyway. Over the course of her five years with Boo, she learned that he was far from the terrifying creature people labeled him.

However, her other bird continued to tease Boo, causing him to become stressed and lose weight. Nedra wanted him to be in a better home where he could thrive, and that's where Hurst came into play.

"When I got him, he couldn't see. He had no muscle mass and he couldn't fly, he couldn't even land because he didn't have strong enough muscles," Hurst said.

This woman began helping Boo regain his strength and confidence, which came with “a lot of hand-feeding.” When Boo began to feel and look better, she began exploring the idea of surgery to help with his cataracts.

Boo underwent a "life-changing surgical procedure" in March at a North Carolina veterinary hospital, which helped restore his sight.

Since then, Boo has been brought back to being a child instead of a 40-year-old bird, and Hurst wanted Nedra to see him in his new state.

Luckily, Nedra lives only 20 minutes away, and she recently made the trip to see her old pet, as she does from time to time. /Telegraph/

@birdsinthedoghouse 40-year-old Boo has been blind for over 10 years from severe cataracts. His previous owner, Nedra, did not know that surgical options were available. His new owners took him to NC State where the surgical team was able to perform life-changing surgery to restore his vision. Nedra came to visit a little over a week after the surgery was completed and this was Boo's reaction when he saw her face for the first time in over a decade.
