Ramus Hojlund has emerged as controversial in the eyes of fans, after a video that appeared on social media.

The Denmark star copied Cristiano Ronaldo's "SIU" celebration when he put his national team ahead against Portugal in the quarter-finals of the Nations League.

After the match, Hojlund stated that he didn't do it to sting the Portuguese, but because he wants to show him that he has an idol.

"He's my idol, it's not that I wanted to make fun of him or anything, I've just always said that he has a lot of importance for me and my football career," the Dane declared.

"It might be a bit ambivalent, but to score against him and Portugal is huge. I went to see him in 2009, where he scored from a free kick, and I've been a fan of his ever since."

He added: "I'm playing against the best footballer in the world, my idol, and to score and win, it couldn't be better."

But the video posted on social media shows Hojlund laughing at some Denmark fans who were chanting: "Messi, Messi, Messi."
