Italian club Napoli are evaluating the possibility of loaning striker Lorenzo Lucca during the January transfer window, to create space in the squad and bring in a new midfielder.

This move comes after Lucca has had a difficult start at Napoli: so far he has scored only 1 goal in 12 Serie A matches, of which only four have been as a starter.

In this situation, two of the clubs that are seriously involved in the competition for his services are Milan and Roma. For Milan, the departure of Santiago Gimenez could facilitate the arrival of Lucca, while Roma, which is expected to complete the loan of Evan Ferguson, sees the Italian as an option to strengthen the offensive department.

Lucca transferred to Napoli last summer from Udinese on a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

However, competition and poor performance have pushed him to the bottom of the club's attacking ranks.

In terms of possibilities, a temporary loan seems more likely than a permanent transfer, given that Napoli need to "make room" for other reinforcements.

However, the final decision remains under evaluation, and much depends on the moves of Milan and Roma in January. /Telegraph/
