He has to pay a 27 thousand euro fine – but he doesn't have a car at all

An unusual story comes from the USA, where a man cannot free himself from the clutches of bureaucracy.

Sobuza Williams from San Francisco was perhaps the unluckiest man last year, receiving over 150 fines totaling $28 (around 27 euros) – and he doesn't even own a vehicle.

The 3 BMW X2008 has been fined for every possible violation, from failing to pay road tax to parking on the sidewalk.

The problem lies in the fact that Williams sold this luxury SUV in 2023 for just $1000, after it had mechanical problems, reports San Francisco Chronicle.

However, due to bureaucracy, the car was never fully transferred to the buyer's name, and Williams cannot escape the fines, no matter how many times he has addressed the relevant institutions.

He admits that he "could have been more careful," but points out that California authorities have not processed a key document that would absolve him of liability.

He sold the car to a friend after they agreed to hand it over at a coffee shop. The friend immediately gave him $1000 in cash in exchange for the keys, but started driving the car before the paperwork was completed.

The fines started piling up immediately. At first, Williams paid them, but then he was forced to seek a revocation of the transfer of ownership after the cost became unaffordable. He even texted the friend who bought the vehicle, who assured him he would fix the situation — but it never happened.

All the documents that depended on Williams have been completed and submitted to the relevant institutions. Now everything depends on the buyer, his “friend” (although this status is now debatable). Until he decides to hand over and sign his share, Williams has no choice but to wait. /Telegraph/
