The Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, today met with the American Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, with whom he discussed the latest developments in the country.

Haradinaj said that he thanked Ambassador Hovenier for his commitment and that of the USA for the continuous support to Kosovo.

"I confirmed the Alliance's position in support of the Franco-German Plan, emphasizing that this plan should enable Kosovo to be recognized by Serbia, and to join NATO and other international organizations," Haradinaj wrote on Facebook, Telegrafi reports.

Otherwise, the American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, said on Thursday that the draft statute that has been proposed to Kosovo for the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, fulfills all the criteria that the United States foresees for it.

"It must be in accordance with the current Constitution of Kosovo. No constitutional changes should be required. It must be in accordance with the decisions of the Constitutional Court. It should not have executive powers. There should be no additional level of power. We believe that this draft, which has been submitted to the Government of Kosovo, fulfills all these criteria, and we believe that it is written in a way that is in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo", he said.

Hovenier told the media that, however, the last word on this draft should be given by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo and one of the provisions of the draft is that it will be analyzed by this court.

For Hovenieri, "all the hysteria regarding constitutionality does not seem appropriate to us, because careful work has been done in the drafting of the draft".

Asked why the draft was not made public, he said that there is nothing secret, but these are only diplomatic issues for the benefit of the process.

"I'm amazed at the number of people who have interpreted a draft statute that they haven't seen. It's a pretty impressive trick. At the end of the day, those who haven't seen the document don't have much basis to comment on it."

Meanwhile, Haradinaj, speaking about the recent meetings in Brussels within the framework of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, stated a few days ago that Prime Minister Albin Kurti has placed Kosovo in the right position, Telegrafi reports.

"Kurti put Kosovo in the right position. The EU should lift the sanctions. The government has decided to implement the agreement, therefore the EU should lift the sanctions. I believe the French president feels good, Kosovo has kept its word", he asserted, in the session of the Assembly. /Telegraph/
