Barcelona coach Hansi Flick reportedly wants to offer Frenkie De Jong a new contract after the Dutchman was repeatedly linked with a possible exit.
According to a report from Catalan outlet Sport, Flick hopes Barcelona will convince the midfielder to renew his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026.
The report adds that Barcelona offered the Dutchman a new deal last year, but the parties failed to reach an agreement.
Sport further highlights that Flick sees De Jong as an important player at Barcelona and that he could take Marc Casado's place in the lineup soon.
The main problem in the negotiations remains the player's salary, especially considering Barcelona's dire financial situation.
