The Guinness Book of Records for 2012 has been published today. Below we present the ten strangest records recorded in this book:

The longest cucumber

The longest cucumber in the world is 119.38 centimeters and was grown by Clare Pearce (Great Britain) while it was measured in Peterborough, Britain in August 2010. The species is Armenian Cucumber, also known as Cucumis melo flexosus.


The loudest meow of a domestic cat

The loudest meow of a domestic cat is 67.7 decibels and was achieved by the cat Smokey, whose owner is Lucinda Ruth Adams (Great Britain) who lives in Northampton. This record was recorded on March 25, 2011. Smokey is a house cat and can make loud noises whenever he feels good and happy. The tools that were used to induce the cat to emit these meows are a brush, pieces of meat and hand petting. The measurement of his voice was made with modern acoustic devices at a distance of one meter.

Fastest time to get into the suitcase

The fastest time to enter and close the suitcase is 5.43 seconds achieved by Leslie Tipton (USA) on September 14, 2009 in New York. He achieved this record during a TV show.

Mostly needles stuck in the head

The record for the most needles stuck in the head is 2.009 which was achieved by Wei Shengchu (China) at the Lo Show dei Record shoot in Milan, Italy on April 11, 2009.

The largest number of stairs climbed by a dog carrying a glass of water on its head is 10 and was achieved by Sweet Pea, an Australian delta dog owned by Alex Rothacker (USA). The record was broken at the Sport und Schau Show, in Verden, Germany on January 05, 2008.

Mostly spoons stuck to our faces

The record number of spoons attached to the face is 17, and was achieved by Aaron Caissie (Canada) on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Milan, Italy on April 18, 2009.

Longer nails

The record for the longest nails is held by Lee Redmond (USA), who started growing her nails in 1979 and took great care of them to reach a total length of 8.65 meters, after the official measurement on the set of Lo show deir Record in Madrid, Spain on February 23, 2008. Lee lost her nails after a traffic accident in early 2009.

Longest life time with scorpios

Kanchana Ketakaew (Thailand), lived in a 12 square meter glass chamber containing 5.320 live scorpions for 33 days and nights at the Royal Garden Plaza, Pattaya, Thailand, from December 22, 2008 to January 24, 2009. During In 33 days, she was stung 13 times by scorpions.

The biggest "Whoopee cushion" in the world

Whoopee cushion is a fun tool that is used to create human-like sounds when passing gas. One such tool which made a place in the book of records measures 3.05 meters in diameter. Created by Steve Measure (UK) at the request of Street Vibe for a children's fun event held in London on 15th June 2008.

The biggest screwdriver

The largest screwdriver in the world is the property of Thomas Blackthorne (Britain). It has a handle measuring 19.5 centimeters and the widest point is about 50 centimeters.
