Grenell says Smith filed the indictment against Thaçi after receiving sensitive information from a US official

US Special Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, in a post on the social network "X", has written again about US prosecutor Jack Smith and the indictment he filed in 2020 against former President Hashim Thaçi.

Grenell mentioned Bruce Schwartz, a US official, to whom Grenell says he had privately shared information about negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia.

In his response, Grenell says that Schwartz "undermined Donald Trump and foreign policy" by sharing that information with US Attorney Jack Smith, and adds that the latter "has filed an indictment against Thaçi for that reason."

According to Grenell, he should be investigated and prosecuted.

Otherwise, in May 2018, Smith was appointed as a Specialized Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, and took up his duties to investigate alleged war crimes in Kosovo in September 2018.

Smith is the prosecutor who charged the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army who are still being held in The Hague with war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Earlier, the former US envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Grenell, had spoken about prosecutor Smith and the release of former president Hashim Thaçi.
