Giant Pennsylvania power plant collapses in controlled explosion

An amateur video shows the moment when the largest coal-fired power plant in Pennsylvania collapsed due to a sudden explosion.

Four tall stacks and three cooling towers at the Homer City Generating Station in Indiana County collapsed in a controlled explosion early Saturday morning, the Telegraph reports.

Footage captured the massive structures collapsing after a series of carefully planned explosions brought them down at the historic Pennsylvania power plant.

The demolition is part of a redevelopment project at the site. Officials say the site will now be cleared for future development.

The coal-fired power plant had been a staple of the community for more than 50 years. /Telegraph/
