Germany will finance a 150 million euro arms package for Ukraine through the Priority Request List for Ukraine (PURL) initiative, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced.

The PURL initiative was launched in July by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and US President Donald Trump and came after criticism from the White House that Europe should bear more responsibility for Ukraine's security.

The new financial agreement foresees 17 allies, mostly European, purchasing US-made weapons, which are then transferred to Ukraine.

It aims to provide a predictable flow of lethal and non-lethal support, including air defense.

PURL is key to implementing Europe's and Canada's commitment to shouldering the bulk of the burden for Ukraine's security as it continues to defend itself from full-scale Russian invasion.

New data on Western military aid to Ukraine shows it fell by 43% in July and August compared to the first half of the year, according to Germany's Kiel Institute, which monitors defense and financial support for Kiev.

Pistorius said the German parliament had agreed to a project for 2026, which includes 11.5 billion euros in support for Ukraine next year, an increase of 3 billion euros.

The draft was approved after a 15-hour session and the Bundestag will vote on it later this month. /Telegraph/
