German politician: With Trump, there could be progress in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue

German politician Lars Patrick Berg expects that the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia will make progress during Donald Trump's new presidency.

The dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is not going in the right direction. Neither side is showing any willingness to make compromises, as the dialogue facilitators are demanding.

However, with the arrival of US President-elect Donald Trump, the dialogue is expected to take on a new dynamic. This is according to German politician Lars Patrick Berg, who has also called on the parties to do more in this process.

"As a result of the war in Ukraine and the Middle East, many things have changed in the geopolitical aspect. These are some of the reasons that the international community has shifted attention from the problems between Kosovo and Serbia. I consider it very important to return the focus to these two countries to move forward towards the European family. With the arrival of the elected US President Donald Trump, I believe that we will see more progress in Washington and Brussels on the issue of dialogue," said Patrick Berg, reports Tvë1.

The former German member of the European Parliament is convinced that there can be no lasting peace in the Balkans if Kosovo and Serbia do not normalize relations with each other.

"Germany has been involved in the region for a long time. Germany is a friendly country to Kosovo and its citizens. The next German government should prioritize the issue of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in such a way as to achieve peace and security in the Western Balkans region. Without resolving this issue, there can be no lasting peace in the Balkans," he said.

And despite the internal problems the EU is facing, the German politician from the "Alliance for Germany" party says that Kosovo should not stop moving towards the ultimate goal of joining the great European family.

At the same time, he expects Kosovo to one day join NATO.

"It is true that the European Union is currently facing many challenges and problems. However, as it has proven in the past, the EU will overcome these challenges and survive. Kosovo must work as hard as possible to become part of the EU and NATO, I am convinced that it will achieve these goals in the future," said the German politician.

To continue the dialogue, the country's Prime Minister Albin Kurti has on several occasions requested that Serbia hand over Milan Radoić, who has accepted responsibility for organizing the attack, as well as Vučić to sign the Basic Agreement.
