German drivers can now pay for fuel through their Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz owners in Germany can now pay for fuel through their car's infotainment system.

Credit card company Mastercard has partnered with Mercedes-Benz to launch 'Pay+', which will allow drivers to pay for their petrol or diesel using fingerprint authentication from inside their car.

When a compatible Mercedes-Benz stops at a connected service station and turns off the engine, the option to pay via the car's MBUX infotainment system appears on the screen. Drive, the Telegraph reports.

The system automatically displays the maximum load, calculated based on the fuel price and the empty tank.

Once authorized using the driver's fingerprint, the car can then be topped up, with the final amount displayed on the screen and the bill charged to their Mastercard – all while avoiding the service shop.

While the service is available at only 3,600 gas stations in Germany, it is possible that the technology will be rolled out to other countries in the coming years. /Telegraph/
