Top military leaders from Germany and the United Kingdom are urging Europeans to prepare for a possible Russian attack.

Moscow is increasingly shifting its military orientation towards the West, the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, Carsten Breuer, and the head of the British Armed Forces, Richard Knighton, warned in a joint appeal published on Monday.

The Russian military is "reorganizing in ways that could increase the risk of conflict with NATO countries," Breuer and Knighton write in an article for Die Welt and The Guardian newspapers.

"Moscow's military buildup, combined with its willingness to wage war on our continent, as painfully demonstrated in Ukraine, represents a growing danger that demands our collective attention."

As a result, the authors are not only in favor of strengthening military preparedness, but also of expanding the European defense industry.

"Ukraine shows us that industrial bases are key to sustaining and ultimately winning any major war," Breuer and Knighton explained.

They emphasize that rearmament "is not warmongering; it is a responsible action of nations determined to protect their peoples and preserve peace."

"Strength deters aggression," the generals added. "Weakness invites it." /Telegrafi/
