Georgiev: Skopje has a problem with Brussels, not Sofia

There is no bilateral problem between Sofia and Skopje, but between Brussels and North Macedonia, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev told, adding that the implementation of the "French proposal" will be "strictly monitored" by Bulgarian authorities, reports Telegraph Macedonia.

"Bulgaria remains extremely consistent in its policy towards the Western Balkans and the European integration of all countries in the region. In 2022, a European consensus was reached (the French proposal), which will be strictly followed. Each country must respect the criteria, adhere to them. EU membership is based on its own merits," Georgiev told "BGNES".

Georgiev added that "Bulgaria and the government remain absolutely steadfast and committed to this approach."

"For us, the security and European integration of the Western Balkans is extremely important. This is an investment in the stability of the whole of Europe, and we recognize it as the country that initiated, encouraged and catalyzed this process in 2018. We recognize and defend our national interests and the interests of the entire European Union. The agreement reached is not a bilateral issue between Sofia and Skopje, but between Brussels and our neighbors from North Macedonia," the Bulgarian minister added./Telegraph/
