The implementation of the Law on Traffic and the Law on Foreigners begins at midnight, new measures for documents and license plates

Tonight at midnight, strict enforcement of the Traffic Law will begin, where vehicles with foreign license plates will not be able to circulate in the country for more than three months or with authorization.
This was confirmed to Telegraf by the Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani.
"The law will come into effect tonight at 00:00 and we are awaiting orders from the Ministry of Internal Affairs," said Elshani.
In addition to the traffic law, strict enforcement of the law on foreigners regarding personal documents will also begin, where all those who do not have Kosovo documents will have to apply for a residence permit within 72 hours.
These measures will mainly affect members of the Serbian community living in Kosovo, who have so far driven vehicles with license plates from Serbian cities, on the basis of an authorization, or without having documents issued by Kosovo institutions.
The implementation of these two laws without exceptions was planned to begin on November 1st of last year, but the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs extended the deadline until January 15th, 2026, in order to conduct an information campaign.
At the end of 2022, Kosovo banned the circulation of vehicles with license plates bearing the acronyms of Serbian cities.
This measure led to the removal of some members of the Serbian community from Kosovo institutions and increased tensions on the ground.
After that, some Serbs living in Kosovo registered their vehicles in Serbia and used them based on special authorizations.
These authorizations include the vehicle driver's identity card data, issued by Serbian authorities for cities in Kosovo, documents that official Pristina does not recognize. /Telegrafi/
