As of January 1, WhatsApp no longer works on these Android phones

Meta has decided to end support for WhatsApp on older Android phones.

Despite the fact that phone manufacturers introduce new models every year, there is a certain number of users who change their devices much less often - every few years.

There is also a smaller number of those who use phones that are 8-9 or more than ten years old. Such devices generally cannot install newer versions of operating systems or receive security updates. It often happens that they even lose support for using popular applications.

Such is the case with a certain number of older phones, which from January 1, 2025 will no longer be able to support WhatsApp.

Meta has decided that phones that are over 10 years old and still running Android KitKat will no longer support the increasingly requested features and AI options that WhatsApp is constantly implementing.

Among the phones losing support for WhatsApp are: Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3 and Galaxy S4 Mini; HTC One X, One X+, Desire 500 and Desire 601; Motorola Moto G (first generation), Razr HD and Moto E 2014; Sony Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T and Xperia V; as well as the LG Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini and L90.

Previously, Meta did the same with iPhone models running iOS older than version 15.1, so WhatsApp is no longer supported on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus models.

If you use one of the phones listed, you should back up your WhatsApp data to a newer device. Otherwise, all photo and video files, as well as chat history, will be deleted from January 1. /Telegraph/
