Skopje citizens will be prohibited from throwing waste into containers from 22:00 PM to 06:00 AM.
Failure to comply with this rule will result in a fine of 50 euros.
According to the authorities, with this ban, containers will be emptied more efficiently and landfills will not be created around them.
"I have seen this practice in Istanbul, where it was allowed to throw away waste only 15 minutes before 5 am. In Tokyo, too, for each truck that collects different types of waste there is a specific schedule for when they are taken out and when they are collected. I hope that this practice will improve even more when different containers for selection are placed," declared Dame Dimitrovski, president of the Skopje City Council.
This decision was opposed by the "Left" party, who called the proposal scandalous.
