France stops sanctioned Russian tanker after British intelligence tip-off

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was speaking in Davos, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his country's navy had detained a Russian tanker under sanctions in the Mediterranean Sea.
"This operation was carried out with the support of some of our allies," he wrote in a post on social media.
"The operation was conducted in full compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," the French leader added.
We will not tolerate any violation.
This morning, the French Navy boarded an oil tanker coming from Russia, subject to international sanctions and suspected of flying a false flag.

The French mission was carried out in cooperation with the United Kingdom, which collected and shared intelligence information.
Macron stressed that the ship was under international sanctions and suspected of operating under a false flag.
"The activities of the shadow fleet contribute to financing Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine," he added.
This announcement comes at an opportune moment, as in his speech, Zelensky specifically mentioned Russian tankers moving through Europe without interference from Ukraine's European allies. /Telegraph/
