Forty years later, a man is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in Germany - details about the incident are revealed

More than 40 years after the violent death of a 19-year-old woman in southern Germany, a man has now been charged with her murder.
Maria Köhler's ex-boyfriend is suspected of strangling the victim with a scarf on July 30, 1984, in the city of Aschaffenburg, foreign media write, according to Telegraph.
The suspect, who is believed to have acted out of jealousy and a desire for revenge, had been on the run for decades.
The 19-year-old woman had separated from her husband, then 25, and had begun a relationship with an American soldier stationed in the former West Germany.
The victim was found dead by a supervisor at a dormitory for trainee nurses in Aschaffenburg.
The suspect is said to have fled Frankfurt to his home country, Turkey, after the crime.
He is suspected of returning to Germany in 1998 under a different name, with his German wife, whom he married in Turkey.
He lived in Aschaffenburg for about 16 years under a false identity before leaving for Turkey again.
Investigators revisited the unsolved case in late 2024 and found the man in Turkey.
After that, the suspect was extradited to Germany last September.
According to the Aschaffenburg public prosecutor's office, he has confessed to the crime and has been in custody since then.
Experts also managed to obtain DNA from the suspected murder weapon. /Telegrafi/
