Once a Scudetto winner and Champions League finalist, the renowned Italian club is relegated to Serie C.

A 0-0 draw against Juve Stabia on Tuesday sent Sampdoria to Serie C for the first time in their 79-year history.

Italian team Sampdoria, the club with which Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini made history in the early 90s by winning a Scudetto and reaching the final of the European Cup (Champions League), has been relegated to Serie C.

The 'Blucerchiati' finished 18th in the Serie B table, joining Cittadella and Cosenza in Italy's third division.

Sampdoria were held to a 0-0 draw away to Juve Stabia on Tuesday evening in the final match of the regular season in Serie B.

The famous Italian club had a difficult season, which began with Andrea Pirlo at the helm. Leonardo Semplici replaced the 2006 World Cup winner with Italy in December, while Alberico Evani took over in April, winning two games, drawing three and losing just once.

Massimo Cellino's Brescia secured survival after a difficult season thanks to a 2-1 victory over Reggiana in the final round of Serie B, which sent Salernitana and Frosinone into a play-off for survival.

Cremonese will meet the winner of Juve Stabia-Palermo in the play-offs for promotion to Serie A, while Spezia will face either Catanzaro or Cesena.

Sassuolo and Pisa have already been promoted to Italy's top division. /Telegraph/
