Former Liverpool defender urges club to sign Harry Kane

Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel has urged the club to consider parting ways with Darwin Nunez this summer, suggesting England international Harry Kane, 31, would be an ideal replacement for the struggling striker.

Babbel highlighted Nunez's instability at Anfield and believes a transfer could benefit both the player and the club.

"Darwin Nunez needs to play more regularly. If Liverpool were to sign Nunez this summer and if they really want a top-level goalscorer, then they should look at Harry Kane. His goalscoring record at Bayern Munich has been excellent and of course, he would still have a lot to offer in the Premier League if he were to return."

The former German international also shared his thoughts on Nunez's problems, stating that the Uruguayan striker can still become a great striker if he regains his confidence.

"I think Darwin Nunez can still be a great striker because he has so much potential. He's strong, skilled, fast - he has everything he needs to be a great striker, but he's trying to show that at Liverpool."

"So I think he needs to leave the club to play more regularly and build his confidence. He is suffering from self-confidence under Arne Slot, he doesn't believe he is the number one striker, which is affecting him."

Although Kane has a release clause in his contract with Bayern Munich, he has consistently expressed his satisfaction with the German giants and his deal still has more than two years remaining.

Meanwhile, Nunez is facing a challenging period at Liverpool and looks increasingly likely to leave in the summer. /Telegraph/
