Ford has patented a manual transmission for electric cars

Ford has published a new patent application, revealing sketches of a manual gearshift for electric vehicles.

According to Ford, the gearbox manages the flow of electrical energy supplied by the battery, controlling engine speed and the torque each motor produces.

In other words, as you move the shift lever, signals are sent to change the vehicle's engine output, mimicking the shifts of a traditional gearbox.

Ford isn't the only one with this idea, as several other manufacturers are trying to add similar features to electric vehicles.

Of course, the patent doesn't mean Ford will produce this gearbox. If we were to be somewhat ironic, we could conclude that some manufacturers could bring manual gearboxes back to gasoline and diesel cars, where they make more sense. In electric vehicles, manual or secondary automatic gearboxes are not necessary. /Telegraph/
