Heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused flooding in several areas of the country, causing material damage in several municipalities.

However, unlike previous years when the Municipality of Vushtrri was among the hardest hit, this time there have been fewer reports of flooding in this municipality.

The Mayor of Vushtrri, Ferit Idrizi, in a statement to Telegrafi, said that the current situation is the result of continuous interventions that have been made during his mandate in the beds of rivers, streams and drainage channels.

According to Idrizi, at the beginning of the mandate, the condition of these beds was not good, as almost no maintenance had been done for a long period.

"At the beginning of the mandate, the condition of river beds, but also of ravines and drainage channels throughout the territory of the Municipality of Vushtrri was not good. For a long period, almost nothing has been done to maintain them, which has led to the blockage of the beds with soil, garbage and bushes. As a result of this situation, the Municipality of Vushtrri has faced continuous floods over the years, endangering property, public infrastructure and the safety of citizens, especially the floods of 2021 that caused millions in damage," said Idrizi.

He emphasized that immediately after taking office, one of the municipality's main priorities was to identify the most problematic areas and intervene concretely in them.

"First, the most problematic areas were identified, and then we started with concrete interventions, where river beds were cleaned, widened and in some cases even concreting. Also, ravines were opened and widened throughout the territory of the Municipality of Vushtrri, and drainage channels that were previously blocked were treated," said Idrizi.

He announced that "the beds of the Silnica, Tërstena, Podranqa rivers, the river that passes through the village of Smrekonicë, the river that comes from Sllakoc and passes through the villages of Ceceli, Ropicë, Samadrexhë, Maxhunaj to the Silnica river, but also other rivers that pass through the territory of the municipality, have been treated."

According to him, the ravines in the villages of Stanoc i Epërm, Novolan, Pantinë, Akrashticë, Vërnicë, Bukosh, Druar, Dumnicë, etc. have been cleaned, while drainage channels have also been opened throughout the territory of the Municipality of Vushtrri.

Idrizi said that this ongoing work has directly impacted the reduction of flood risk in the municipality.

"The current situation is significantly more stable and manageable compared to previous periods. In most areas, flood risks have been reduced, thanks to the interventions carried out and the continuous monitoring of the situation on the ground. However, we remain aware that this is an issue that requires permanent commitment, therefore we will continue with investments, regular maintenance and preventive measures to guarantee long-term safety for our citizens", said Idrizi, among other things.. /Telegraph/
